| Irving Berlin (May 11, 1888 – September 22 , 1989), a Russian immigrant who composed on the piano with one finger and never learned to read music beyond a rudimentary level, wrote over 3,000 songs, produced 17 film scores, and 21 Broadway scores and became one of the most prolific and famous icons in American music. Of course he didn’t watch much T.V., partially because they didn’t exist for part of his lifetime, but then if they had,
the options would have gone something like – Watch T.V. or become one of the most famous composers in American history? – What would you choose?

| Composition is not about the knowledge you have in your head. It’s about what you have in your heart and soul that wants to be expressed to another human being. It’s only in sharing it with another human being that a composition, of any kind, becomes complete and alive. The human race benefits from your willingness to share in this way, even if it’s a simple song that you want to share with your sweetheart or a friend. Whatever you have musically meandering around inside you, from a song to a symphony, I can help you get it out and heard, and together we get to make the world a better place. |
