ABOUT

Marguerite Conti grew up in the southern Midwest. She launched her music career in Santa Cruz, California with the release of her recordings Rising from the Night (1990), and Angels (1993). Both releases received national airplay on public and commercial radio and earned Conti critical acclaim as a vocalist and songwriter. Currently based in Seattle, she has been writing, recording, teaching, performing and producing live music concerts since 1994. Her songs have also appeared on the CD compilations of the Seattle Folklore Society and the Seattle Performing Songwriters collective.
Marguerite’s most recent CD, Bring the Music (2008), ventures from the folk and pop flavors of her early releases to the realms of blues and jazz. The project was co-produced by Conti’s long-time friend and mentor, Ed Corey (Electric Guitar), who was also her guitar instructor during undergraduate studies in music. Bring the Music also includes contributions from Hans Halt (Bass), Will Dowd (Drums), Nova Karina Devonie (Accordions), Jackie Robbins (Cello), Kym Tuvim and Alicia Healey (Background Vocals). Ed Corey and Hans Halt currently perform together in the Ed Corey Trio. Both are on faculty in the Jazz and Improvisational Music program at the University of Nevada, Reno. The other Seattle-based musicians perform and record in various settings throughout and beyond the Seattle area.
Marguerite draws inspiration from a wide range of genres including blues, jazz, ragtime, rock, pop, contemporary folk, musical theater, opera, classical, and rap. She has also explored various styles drawn from African, Brazilian, French, Italian, and Cuban cultures. Her influences include an eclectic mix of artists such as Ella Fitzgerald, Van Morrison, Queen Latifah, Freddie Hubbard, Emily Remler, George Van Eps, Leonard Burnstein, Chet Atkins, Liza Minnelli, Lara Fabian, Peggy Lee, Billie Holiday, The Mamas and the Papas, and Joan Armatrading to whom Conti dedicated her second recording.
Marguerite holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music from Sierra Nevada College and a Master of Music Education degree from Boston University. She is currently performing, teaching, conducting music workshops and writing for a new CD slated for release in 2011.
